roses?????? what am i suppose to do with my roses before winter?
When planting roses do you go with what you love, or what coordinates? Here is the thing. I love roses. At my former house I had some gorgeous roses. At this current house I have tried planting roses, but my Dogs keep eating them. I am now going to rip out 3 large bushes in the flower bed by the house to plant the roses there. (I have a georgeous flower bed, but there are no roses in it. I know they hired someone to design that flower bed, but for me it isn't complete without roses). Now my favorite rose is the first prize rose. It isn't the most fragrant, but for me those large pink flowers cannot be touched. Now that is funny, because pink is not my favorite color, but I just love that rose. I also am partial to the chicago peace. What would you put? I have room for 4-5 rose bushes. I will admit, over the years, I have had a hard time finding a first prize rose. I am going to try really hard this year. I may need to try more than 2 nurseries, but I am willing to try. Do I give up on my fav.? What would you plant if you had the chance?
Why are my roses growing bad after I put fertilizer? I had recently planted 2 rose shrubs in pots. I had 3 beautiful roses. After about 2-3 weeks of planting, I applied 'Rose Thrive' (fertilizer) and now there is a 'white powder' like on the stems; the rose have turned a shade of green with pink spots, and leaves have yellow edges? Could you tell me what's gone wrong? thanks Thanks Donna I will try that.
How to make roses out of bettercreme frosting? I am making a cake for a graduation party and I'm planning on putting roses on it using Rich's Bettercreme. I've been practicing the technique using Pedal Tip 103 and a flower nail. I apply the base to the nail, but once I start adding the pedals, it begins to droop. I've already added powdered sugar to the frosting to make it stiffer, but the rose still droops. Is there any way too keep the roses from drooping. Any advice would be very helpful. Thank you.
My roses are crap!! How do you prune and when so that next year they will be as nice as my neighbors? We have several rose bushes...we live at 5300ft above sea level and came here from the desert, so I've never had roses before. I cut the dead bulbs off as they go bad, but last fall never 'pruned' any of the bushes as I've heard you should. This year we had about 1/3 the return of roses and actually one whole bush never bloomed...and it's our largest one? I went and bought a really rich mulch and turned the soil beneath each bush about 3 weeks ago before adding the fresh soil hoping that the nutrients might help...it did somewhat, but all the people up here have roses and they have sooooo many more than us on each bush....tons...and they are soooooo big too. How do I get my rose bushes to produce like that for next year...and when and how is the best way to prune??? Thanks all!
What month is good to start caring for my roses again? I have about 10-12 large rose bushes and about 3-4 (possibly more) mini roses and there is a PRS(Portland Rose Society) Rose show coming up and I wasn't able to enter last year so I want to know what month would be best to start caring for them to get the best out of them. Also if its possible, are there any greener rose foods, pest killers, etc. that won't harm the earth or my roses? I appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!
How do I turn unruly roses into nice plants? I recently bought a home thats garden had obviously been a sight to see, in its day. Now its more than a little run-down and abused. Bit by bit we are taking care of it all. My next process is the roses. There are 6 or so bushes along the back fence. They are HUGE and overgrown and completely taking over the yard. Its looking a bit like a horror movie. From what I can tell, they look fairly healthy, and they are blooming right now. I want to keep them, but I want to cut them back A LOT. I have read up on pruning rose bushes (i've never had roses before) but all of the advice i've found applies to bushes that have been taken care of routinely. What is the best method to downsize these things without hurting them terribly?
What should I do to have nice roses? I just bought a house and it has 6 rose bushes on it. I have never worked with roses let a lone in a garden. I am clueless. I am not even sure they are roses. It has thorns but the flower comes in batches of 3. The flower looks like a rose so I am just assuming. I also see a vine growing around one of the bushes which I am trying to cut of it. Is that okay? All the bushes are out of direct sunlight and seam to be doing well. At the tipes of some of the bushes the stems look dead. Should I trim the stems that have no leaves? Should I cut of the flowers after a few days? How often should I water them? Again any info is good info. I am a putz when it comes to gardening. I am in western New York.
My roses are not flowering. How do people get there rose bushes to bloom all summer? I bought 5 rose bushes. 3 are really small and the other two are 3 feet in height. One of the large ones had a rose on it when I bought it. Since then the flower died and I have not seen any new flowers on any of the plants since. All of my plants are in full sun. Is there some kind of plant food it needs? Some kind of trick? I see roses bloom for people all summer long. I want that to happen.

Roses - transplanted in fall - how can I help them in their new home? I have two roses that I cut back significantly at my old house and brought to my new place in the fall. They survived the move and I am seeing some little shoots starting to come up near the base of the new plants. I love these roses and really want them to do well in their new home. Is there anything I can do to help them? In my old place I just left them alone and trimmed them as needed and they grew like weeds. Thank you for your advice/tips.
What kind of roses grow best in a shady area? This is for the north side of a house. In the summer, the morning sun and afternoon sun shine on it, but, the rest of the year, it's shady. We want roses because they bloom from April through October. All our other flowers only bloom a few months.

With the rarity of Black Roses, is it possible to buy a bouquet of black roses? How much would I pay? I am looking to purchase a bouquet of Black Roses. As price is not an issue. @Kid, you obviously did not read my question 'darling' otherwise you would of read that I said Baccara Roses.

How can I help roses in shade bloom? I have wild (feral - probably formerly tame) roses growing in the shade caused by tall locust trees. Increasing light is not a choice. Anything I can do to help them bloom? As the locust trees are about 40 feet tall, I can only assume that the roses were planted first, when it was sunny -- maybe 30 years ago? Is there anyway to identify the breed of these without the blooms?
What are some natural ways to keep pests off roses? We just built a pergola and planted climbing roses of a hearty old rose type, and want to ensure we keep them healthy. We refuse to use any chemicals, and make our own compost and use rabbit pen droppings as fertilizer. They are growing well, but one of my nearby rose bushes has something eating at the leaves, leaving them with little holes in them. What can I do to prevent this?
I just planted a hedge of Knockout Roses-Can you help me with an insect problem? There are 18 roses all together, 9 pink and 9 red. They have been in the ground since March 1st. I noticed a few whiteflies and aphids 2 weeks ago. Since they were do for their first fertilizer, I gave them all a half of treatment of Bayer 2 in one systemic feed and protect for roses. They are all blooming and have doubled in growth since planting, and generally look beautiful, but today I still see a few whiteflies and even more aphids. How best to leave roses at the cemetery? My mother passed away three months ago, and this is my first Mother's Day without her. In keeping with tradition, at least for this year, I would like to bring her the same huge bouquet of roses that I have brought her every year in the past. I don't want to simply leave the roses lying down on the ground, and a vase would too easily be knocked over by the wind and possibly broken. Any suggestions on how best to leave roses at the cemetery? I asked my local florist for ideas, but she came up blank.
Why do roses start die/bend after a day in a vase? I never really understand why when you get a beautiful arrangement of long stem roses, after about a day in a vase with water they start to bend at the neck or seem like they are about to die. It totally sucks!(urgh) Does it mean they were at their end when they were purchased, they were a bad batch to begin with or some other reason? I would really like to know in order to avoid this from happening in the future. Anyone who knows about roses?
How do roses do in cold temperature? I want to leave some roses on a friend's doorstep tomorrow. The low temp for tomorrow is projected at 40 degrees. So assuming worst case scenario and saying maybe she doesn't get them for a few hours, how would roses do in a vase with water at that temperature?

I had these two roses (from a bouquet) for two weeks and I think I can make them grow roots. If so, how long do I have to wait? I just wonder if I have to use some kind of fertilizer for the water... please advice me.
