can guaiacum grow as single flowers out of the ground, not on a tree?

I have found single flowers in the park I go to, and they look exactly like the tree flowers.

  1. Guaiacum, or guajacum, is a genus in the caltrop family Zygophyllaceae. The six species are shrubs and trees, native to subtropical and tropical regions of the Americas. NO, it cannot grow as a single flower out of the ground . It is possible that you have seen a flower of that tree/ shrub that has been wind swept or fallen down from a tree/ shrub . click the link for a picture= http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Koeh-069.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3147/2462585674_3310a7df63.jpg The genus has six species so floral structure may vary but no flower directly from the ground as you have mentioned . Thank you !
