How to make roses out of bettercreme frosting?
I am making a cake for a graduation party and I'm planning on putting roses on it using Rich's Bettercreme. I've been practicing the technique using Pedal Tip 103 and a flower nail. I apply the base to the nail, but once I start adding the pedals, it begins to droop. I've already added powdered sugar to the frosting to make it stiffer, but the rose still droops. Is there any way too keep the roses from drooping. Any advice would be very helpful. Thank you.

- Keep your tools handy and make your own buttercream icing. I do not know about Rich's Bettercreme, but it sounds like it is too soft. There is a talent to making roses, but after a few, you can become pretty good. the icing should hold its shape though, so that in itself will help make good roses. Recipe for Buttercream Icing 3-4 cups icing sugar 1/2 stick of room temperature unsalted butter. 1 drop red food color (makesPink) 1 tbsp milk or less--do not add too much liquid or the icing becomes soft. Using a fork mix all the ingredients in a bowl by hand, you will feel the stiffness & the texture of the icing better. Icing should be stiff but pliable. Use the link below to help you make roses.
- You can make roses using Bettercreme. When you whip the Bettercreme whip it up pretty stiff. It should be stiff enough that if you drop a teaspoon of it on a plate it will hold its shape and not droop. If you use a # 104 rose tip...it will be easier to work with. Sometimes you can make the cone shape on your nail using a # 10 tip and kind of pack it down as you build it up...then put on your rose tip and make the petals. Also you might try making the cone on a square of waxed paper and freezing the cone...then add the petals to that. You do not want to add powdered sugar to Bettercreme...it will alter the whole formula. Bettercreme has to stay light and airy. Whipping it longer will make it stiffer. If you are buying the Bettercreme already whipped...you can still whip it some more to make it stiffer.
